Have you ever heard the theory that people and their pets begin to look alike over time? You know, the lady with the perm (and the poodle). Well, whatever power at be that allows this to happen didn’t make it so easy for people and their kitchens. It requires a bit more intention and attention to make this happen. So—how do you design your space to look like you?
We’re not saying you’ll be buying matching outfits, or being total “twinsies” with your kitchen. However, you’d be surprised how possible it is for your space to match your personality. Or, if you will, your vibe. Every space has endless potential, believe it or not. It’s all about finding the right inspiration, and the right team to make it happen.
It’s Your Kitchen, We’re Just Eatin’ In It
Designing a space that is representative of you and your family is a lot easier than you might think. And, the most important advice we can offer is: remain true to yourself. Not some TV celebrity you’d love to meet. Just because the professionals like something, and it gets network ratings, doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for you. Or your space.
Take advice from those you trust, and who truly understand you. But, if you like something, and it speaks to you? Go for it. You’re footing the bill (and spending more time there than anyone else). So remember, your opinion matters most. Always do what feels right for you and your space, fight for it tooth and nail.
This goes for us as well. If we’re lucky enough to be entrusted with the redesign of your space, always be open and honest with our team. We can’t make you the perfect space if you aren’t telling us how you really feel.
Open Your Mind Before Your Wallet
Kind of contrary to the last section, it is important to explore a wide range of styles and opinions. When seeking inspiration for your space, check out as many options as you can. You might have a pretty good idea about what you want, or even think you know exactly—but what’s the worst thing that could happen? By looking at more and more options, you’ll either reaffirm your belief in the original thought, or, change your mind because you found something better (that you might not have previously considered).
Something can represent you and your personality, even if you just discovered it. You don’t have to stick to your tried and true ideas, (unless you want to). We previously published this article that talks about ways to find inspiration for your design. If you’re looking for ideas on spaces to remodel with your personality in mind, this article explores seven spaces in which this is totally possible.
Design Your Space to Look Like You
It’s as simple as it sounds. If you like colors, patterns, and textures—incorporate them. Liberally. If you prefer neutral tones and softer touches, seek those out. Focus on color-ways and features that feel more natural, and calming.
Find inspiration from professionals, from TV networks, Pinterest boards, and Instagram. But most importantly, from your life—your work, hobbies, travels, friends, and family.
Crafting a space which truly feels like you can take a whole crew. Make sure it is a responsible group of professionals. With you at the lead, there’s no limit to where we’ll go!
