Overwhelmed by Design Inspiration?

Seeking design inspiration for the remodel of a space can be quite overwhelming. Ironically, it should be one of the most exciting pieces to your renovation puzzle. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by design inspiration, we can help. Please find some useful recommendations below.

Start with an open mind.

Ultimately, the goal is to narrow down your design ideas. However, initially scanning a broad range of ideas and concepts is important. This ensures you don’t miss something you absolutely love, before it’s too late.

You know you like modern, but maybe you wouldn’t have decided to go with those antique-style appliances had you only followed strictly modern thought leaders. Bringing elements in from other styles you like can really balance out your design, and will bring your personality to the forefront.

Follow design, follow inspiration, follow a range.

Of course, we have to plug our Instagram account here (@mccormick_kitchens). This is a great place for you to keep up with our most recently completed projects. However, the accounts we follow there are great sources of inspiration as well. We definitely recommend you explore them by visiting our page and looking at the list of those we follow. Following a range of accounts related to your project on Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest allows you to take in inspiration from a variety of sources throughout your day.

Organize design inspiration.

When you find things you like, it is important to be able to easily locate them again. One sure fire way to make finding design inspiration a challenge, is to find it—then lose it.

You can take screen shots of posts online. And, there’s always good ol’ fashioned magazine clipping. This article about building a vision board for your project is handy if you feel like being crafty (and offers solutions if you don’t). This is a great way to keep all inspirations and choices in one place for quick reference.

Explore providers.

For cabinetry, we work with Dura Supreme, Medallion, and Fabuwood. These brands run the gamut of cabinetry styles, colors, and customizability.

There are even more choices out there when it comes to tiles, flooring, and other accessories.

What brands have stood out to you most and are starting to sound more familiar? Which ones offer the styles and features you’re looking for, which ones do not?

Of course, you have to like the element. But, you should also like the brand that makes it. What kind of warranty do they offer? How do their reviews read…

Obtain samples.

You may find an element you believe to be the most beautiful, have-to-have thing you’ve ever seen. No matter how stunning something is independently, it must compliment and accentuate your previous selections. Small (often free) samples of tile, flooring, counter tops, cabinetry (color, door styles), and even appliance finishes or hardware can be obtained and arranged in your space to ensure they balance each other out—achieving the aesthetic you’ve been planning for your space.

It is important to see these samples in your space as lighting, architecture, and surrounding spaces can have more of an impact on your selections than you may think. Something could look great in a showroom, but not so perfect in your kitchen. Try to find this out before making the commitment.
